Overview of OMMO Rechargeable Metal Detector: Features and Operating Guide
The OMMO metal detector is designed for versatility, combining traditional analog controls with modern power features. It is built to accommodate both beginners and experienced hobbyists through its adjustable hardware and specific detection modes.
Operating Modes
The device features three primary modes to help you refine your search based on the environment and target type:
All Metal Mode: This is the default search setting. It detects all types of metal, including iron, steel, zinc, aluminum, gold, copper, and silver.
Discrimination Mode: This mode allows you to filter out “trash” items. By adjusting the toggle, you can set the device to ignore specific low-value metals while remaining sensitive to coins or jewelry.
Pinpoint Mode: Once a target is located, pressing and holding the PP button narrows the search area to the exact center of the object, reducing the amount of digging required.
Sensitivity Adjustment
The sensitivity dial (SENS) ranges from 0 to 10. While higher sensitivity allows for deeper detection, you may need to lower it if you encounter “ground mineralization” or electromagnetic interference, which can cause false signals.
Waterproofing Limitations
The 10-inch search coil is fully waterproof, allowing for use in shallow water, streams, and at the beach. However, the control box is not waterproof. Ensure the top half of the unit remains dry at all times to avoid damaging the electronics.
Ergonomics
The stem uses a buckle-lock design rather than a twist-lock, which is generally faster to adjust. The included armrest is designed to reduce wrist and arm fatigue during long sessions.

Not a single complaint about this one! I¡¯ve had so many metal detectors over the years and they all had issues. Even the very expensive ones were problematic in one way or another. This one checks all the boxes! It works very well. Right out of the box or started beeping and I thought, oh no, this thing is just going to beep at everything and hope it hits something lol. But nope, it turns out it was hitting on my copper pipes through the floor – bathroom / bedroom over basement!
We took it to the beach and got it soaked by putting it in the shallows (ankle deep) and it really is waterproof. We found so many coins and even a chain with a gold pendant. Yes-
We turned it in to the resort office. It¡¯s very accurate. We had so much fun with it!
Definitely worth the cost. We¡¯ll enjoy it for a long time!
Works great, was skeptical because the lower cost but it¡¯s great. Nothing negative to say at all about this unit. It¡¯s very easy to use. Great value for the money, detects great. If you¡¯re looking for an entry level metal detector I¡¯d definitely suggest this one.
This metal detector is an awesome entry point into the hobby and it¡¯s great for both adults and older children starting out.
The accuracy and sensitivity are solid, as it consistently picks up coins and smaller relics, and the clear audio cues make discrimination easy without constant screen checks. This detector is lightweight, features a comfortable, fully adjustable design with a padded armrest, ensuring hours of comfortable use.
A major selling point is that the 10-inch coil is fully waterproof, which is great for beach detecting right in the shallow surf line, a feature often lacking in detectors at this price point.
Assembly is fast, the controls are simple, and the convenient built-in rechargeable battery is a huge benefit for extended hunts.
If you want a dependable, high-quality, and fun detector that excels in parks and at the beach without breaking the bank, this is a superb choice and is highly recommended for beginning treasure hunters!
I’ve always wanted to get a metal detector, but years ago most of the choices were expensive for the number of times I thought I would probably use it. I ordered this one to see what you can get for a “beginner” type detector for under $100. Here are my thoughts.
First, the detector came partially disassembled in a box smaller than you would expect. It was very easy to assemble with clear instructions showing how to do it. Construction wise it seems to be fairly well built with a sturdy arm holding the coil to the control and handle. It is adjustable for length and was long enough for my 6′ height without stooping over. The control has an analog meter rather than digital (most of the detectors seem to be digital now!). Not sure which is better so I won’t judge anything on that. I charged it up fully and started to test it.
Because I live in the frigid North (-15F last night!) it was going to be difficult to go outside and see if anything popped up in the yard or in the neighborhood. I took a few coins, some tacks, a bottle cap, and some foil candy wrappers and threw them on the basement floor and covered them with some blankets and rugs. I turned on the detector and put on the headphones. The headphones are functional, but if I were serious about metal detecting would be one of the first things I would upgrade. Passing the coil over the blankets showed where the metal objects are pretty well. It was tricky figuring out which mode worked better, but I could at least find where the objects were with some degree of accuracy. The only thing that was questionable was that the unit seemed to randomly beep sometimes even when I had the coil a couple of feet off the ground. I’m not sure this is normal with all detectors, but it was an observation.
Overall I think this could be a good beginners model detector for someone dipping their toes in metal detecting, or for someone that has an occasional need for one.
While I haven’t found any buried treasure (yet!), it has been a lot of fun using this around the backyard with my seven-year-old nephew in tow. He is fascinated by it, and I have to admit I am too! It is quite easy to use (hey, even a seven-year-old can figure it out!) and the instructions are very straightforward and this is coming from someone who has never used a metal detector before if that is any indication of its user-friendliness. Also, it seems to be really good quality as far as I can tell. It is made from durable material and is quite heavy! However, this isn’t to say that it’s uncomfortable or cumbersome to use. It is easy to hold and the way it is designed makes it so the weight is distributed evenly. Overall it’s a very cool device and I highly recommend to any treasure-hunting enthusiast or those seeking a new hobby or just something fun and different to try.
